Job Description:

Objective: The Staff Accountant in the Transportation Tax Department plays a key role in preparing tax filings for transportation clients, maintaining accurate financial records, and providing consultative support on tax planning strategies. This position supports the preparation of quarterly estimates, S Corporation compliance, 2290 and 1099 filings, and assists with client communications related to tax matters. Essential Functions: 1. Prepare quarterly tax estimates and federal filings (1099s, 2290s) for transportation clients. 2. Assist with the preparation of individual and business tax returns, including Schedule C and S Corporations. 3. Support transportation clients with S Corporation formations and related filings. 4. Conduct research on federal and state tax matters related to the transportation industry. 5. Collaborate with the Transportation Department to ensure timely completion and delivery of client tax engagements. 6. Maintain detailed and organized workpapers in accordance with internal quality control standards. 7. Communicate with clients to gather documentation, provide status updates, and deliver final tax products. 8. Assist with various internal projects such as Beneficial Ownership Information filings, RA renewals, and client retention tracking. 9. Identify opportunities for improved tax processes and client service efficiencies. 10. Uphold compliance with internal procedures and external regulatory requirements. Competencies: Tax Preparation & Review : Prepare accurate tax estimates, returns, and forms for transportation clients, including Schedule C and S Corporations. S Corporation Compliance : Support the setup and maintenance of S Corporations and assist clients with related filing obligations. 3. Form Filing & Deadlines : Complete and file Forms 1099 and 2290, ensuring timely submission and regulatory compliance. 4. Client Communication : Maintain clear, professional communication with clients to collect data and explain tax matters. 5. Transportation Industry Knowledge : Apply federal and state tax knowledge specific to transportation clients’ needs. 6. Workflow Management : Maintain organized digital files, monitor deadlines, and assist with the delivery of client-ready tax products. 7. Team Collaboration : Work closely with Transportation Department team members to support ongoing client work, projects, and improvements. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. He or she reports directly to the Transportation Tax Manager. Position Expectations & Work Environment This is a full-time salaried exempt position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works normal office hours (with guilt-free flexibility). Some weeks over 40 hours will be required. Location & Travel Based in Springfield, MO . Required Education & Experience Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. One to two years of experience in accounting roles with an emphasis in tax services. CPA certification preferred. Experience using Microsoft Office applications, QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, UltraTax, and AdvanceFlow preferred. Must pass a CJIS background check.
