SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES

The Assistant Professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities: conduct research both individually and in collaboration with other faculty; publish the results of scholarship in refereed journals; obtain external funding to support research and curriculum development endeavors; develop and teach graduate and undergraduate level courses on the Fayetteville campus and online; participate in student advisement and mentoring, including service on graduate student advisory and dissertation committees; engage in community outreach with culturally and linguistically diverse populations; collaborate with P-12 schools such as through offering professional development or programmatic support; and provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PLEASE ENSURE THAT ALL RELEVANT APPLICATION MATERIALS INCLUDE DETAILS ADDRESSING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS. APPLICANTS NOT MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM CONSIDERATION.

* An earned doctorate degree conferred by the start of employment, from a nationally recognized university in educational linguistics, English as a Second Language, applied linguistics or a closely related field

* Demonstrated evidence of teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students for at least one year

* Evidence of teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students for at least one year

* Evidence of scholarly productivity

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Scholarly presentations and/or publications in the areas of education, ESL/bilingual/multicultural education, or related disciplinary areas

* At least two years of experience in a P-12 US school setting with linguistically diverse students

* Evidence of collaboration with P-12 US educators such as through successful curriculum and/or professional development

* Documented evidence of successful teaching at the college/university level

* Experience in the development and implementation of online education courses offered by a college/university

* Experience working in culturally and linguistically diverse settings such as study and/or teaching abroad

* Experience working with international students and communities

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION

Employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment. Employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, general laborer, lab personnel, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard).
