The Medical Surgical Department has 116 private patient rooms that provide care to a wide variety of patient populations. The department has nursing units on the 4th and 5th floors of the Medical Center. The nursing units on the 4th floor have general medical patients, including hospice and oncology patients. The 5th floor consist of post- surgical and surgical progressive units. The Total Joint Center is a specialized unit that is dedicated to the care of patients that have received Hip, Knee and Shoulder Joint Replacements.Medical-Surgical is a great place to start a nursing career and/or master the skills in which one was taught within a nursing program. Medical-Surgical units take a wide variety of patients from 16 years of age to end of life. This is a fast paced environment with a lot of learning opportunities.All applicants will be assigned a dedicated preceptor during the orientation process.Position Summary This position is responsible for the care of assigned patients including evaluation, implementation and documentation. The LPN is responsible for delegating to and supervising the job classes of: nursing assistant and unit secretary. The LPN assists in the orientation of new staff and clinical supervision of nursing students. The LPN assists in achieving patient quality of care, national patient safety goals and budgetary goals. This position has exposures to body fluids, radiation, and communicable disease. The majority of work time is spent standing and/or walking short distances, with frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting of up to 100lbs, as well as occasional carrying of up to 25lbs. A culturally and linguistically diverse patient population is served including adults and geriatrics.Licenses/Certifications Requirements Arkansas LPN license or licensed in a state that has enacted the RN/LPN NLC and CPR.Specific Educational and Skill Competencies Requirements Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and licensed to work in the state of Arkansas and CPR. Basic Dysrhythmia and ACLS certification is recommended but not required.Licensed Practical Nurse Skills and Qualifications Clinical Skills, Bedside Manner, Infection Control, Nursing Skills, Physiological Knowledge, Medication Administration, Teamwork, Multi-tasking, Listening, Verbal Communication, Health Promotion and Maintenance
