The role of the Pre-Admissions Nurse reports to the ACU Manager. This position is responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and streamlining elective admission procedures and processes for all patients for the ACU. This position also efficiently and effectively coordinates admission care and direction of patient care for elective admissions with physician offices, the scheduling department, and all ancillary departments. This position may also include patient care in the Ambulatory Care Unit and Infusion Center. Most of the time is spent standing and/or walking for short distances (up to 60% of work time), with frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 100 lbs. (up to 10% of work time), and occasional carrying of up to 25 lbs. Some of the work time (up to 30%) is spent sitting, typing, and answering the telephone. A culturally and linguistically diverse patient population is served including adolescents, adults and geriatrics, with the majority being adults and geriatrics.Responsbilities
Review clinic orders for completeness; contact for additional needs.
Review history and physical for completeness.
Assists with pre-procedure needs such as testing.
Cares for and monitors patients in the post-procedure area, including discharge instruction and care.
Provides care to the patient requiring infusion.
Provides needed assistance to other coworkers to ensure adequate patient care.
Effective communication skills between patients, patient families, physicians, coworkers, volunteers, community partners, and vendors.
Efficiently and effectively coordinates pre-admission planning for elective admission patients with physicians, the scheduling departments, and all ancillary departments.
Assists in achieving quality patient care, national patient safety goals, and regulatory requirements.
Establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including: patients, patient families, physicians, coworkers, volunteers, community partners, and vendors.
Establishes effective teamwork in daily activities.
Uses good problem-solving techniques, shows initiative, and finds creative ways to overcome challenges.
Understands the age-specific needs, including care, communication, and safety needs for the patient population served.Qualifications
Education: must be a graduate of an accredited RN or LPN program.
Licensure and Certifications: Arkansas RN or LPN license or a state that has enacted the RN NLC. CPR
Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in cardiology, radiology, or cardiovascular services preferred. Knowledge of the preparation process for outpatients is preferred.
