Summary
Perform patient care assessment, medication delivery and airway
clearance techniques. Provide ventilatory support. Perform
specialty tasks (bronchoscopy assist, in-house transports to
testing or transfer units). Document patient related activities.
Perform medical record review to ensure physician`s orders for
respiratory care are current. Provide suggestions and input into
patient`s plan of care, attempt to initiate respiratory protocols
for applicable patients. Receive, document and initiate orders
pertaining to respiratory care modalities. Provide
orientation/reinforcement to respiratory care modalities pertaining
to the disease process. Provide information to patients and
families concerning their understanding of, cooperation with and
participation in their own care upon admission. Provide patient
education for home care, including but not limited to the following
modalities: patient assessment, medication delivery, airway
clearance techniques, mechanical ventilation. Knowledge of basic
anatomy and physiology of the cardiopulmonary systems and infection
control; disease states, pathophysiology and pharmacology;
operation of equipment used to administer routine respiratory care
therapeutic modalities; special procedures (once trained). Ability
to be articulate, courteous and supportive in dealing with
hospital, administrative and departmental personnel, patients and
parents with ability to honor confidentiality; to independently
treat patients from all departments by following the established
therapy plan of care; demonstrate excellent verbal and written
communication skills; demonstrate good customer service; utilize
basic office equipment and a personal
computer.Licenses/Certifications Required
LRCP with AR License, CPRSpecific Educational and Skill
Competencies Required
High school diploma or equivalent; a graduate of an A.M.A approved
certification/registry program OR may be a graduate of an A.M.A.
approved degree program in respiratory care; a current license to
practice respiratory care the in the State of Arkansas and
Respiratory Therapist with the National Board for Respiratory Care.
Certification in basic cardiac life support is required. One (1)
year clinical experience in both critical and non-critical care
areas (with a minimum of six (6) months experience in critical
care) is preferred.
