About the College/Department Department Home Page ***************** Job Type Staff Summary of Job Duties The Communications and IT Specialist is responsible for a wide range of activities and support related to internal and external communications needs (e.g., website maintenance/ creation, portals/interface creation/maintenance, social media, creating online training videos, and communicating campus technology updates) for all units reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, including Research Compliance, Office of Sponsored Programs, Innovation and Industry Partnerships, and other units as required. The principal responsibilities are to provide communication support and to work closely with VCRI leadership and the Director of Science and Research Communications to maintain and enhance the communications strategies by delivering timely and relevant information to the research community and various audiences, while continually working toward offering improved multimedia and informational content. The Communications and IT Specialist will: identify improvement opportunities and develop productivity support tools to enhance IT operations efficiency; provide necessary consultation and guidance regarding technological needs to department staff as needed; provide web server administration support on departmental web servers; ensure that data is properly secured, backed up, and available to appropriate staff upon request; act as a liaison to University Information Technology Services and other university departments as needed; maintain the operational status of unit computers, printers, networks, and other peripherals; assist with the operation of electronic research administration as needed; develop departmental solutions with KACE, Box, Point, and listservs; complete and maintain an inventory of all machines; perform other duties as assigned. The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer applications, mathematics, or a related field At least two years of experience in computer support OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting At least four years of experience in computer support plus one year of supervisory experience Does this job require any license(s)/certification(s)? No If yes, please specify Preferred Qualifications Experience creating and implementing comprehensive marketing communications and/or strategic plans Full-time professional experience in marketing and communications within a higher education environment Experience in internal/external communications Experience with CSS with demonstrated evidence of a strong user interface and graphic design background Proficient level of experience with HTML, XHTML, PHP, MySQL Demonstrated familiarity and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite Demonstrated writing ability Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of Point Administration Highly proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher Strong attention to detail Efficient time management Excellent oral and written communication skills Video creation/editing Web development skills using ASP, PHP, JavaScript, XML, CSS, JQuery, AJAX Ability to work with a team Ability to grasp and work with new languages Ability to develop and maintain social media Physical activities associated with this position The following physical activities are associated with the position and will be performed with or without an accommodation.
