/> Summary of Job Duties: This Academic Advisor position is designed to help students reach their educational and career goals through recruitment and advisement. In addition to the recruitment of participants, this position provides advisement on academic issues including the completion of a rigorous high school curriculum, high school graduation and college entry/graduation, scholarship and financial aid eligibility and application information, and post secondary selection/application. In addition to advisement, this position requires the development and delivery of college preparatory curriculum for participants in approved target schools which is age/grade appropriate, and the development and implementation of program activities promoting college entry such as campus visits to colleges and universities, and other college preparatory campus/initiatives. As required by the U.S. Department of Education, record keeping duties include the entry and maintenance of hard copy and database files for all program participants, documentation of services provided, and tracking/reporting student progress for and annual performance reporting. This position will also be required to travel by car to target schools and may be required to travel by air or car for work related events. The ability to work with others in a collegial, harmonious manner (especially with members of one's own team) is an essential function of this position.

Regular and reliable attendance that is not disruptive to the operation of the department is an essential function of this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required in education, counseling, social work, family studies, behavioral science, public administration, or other related fields from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least two years of TRIO or related experience (low-income, first-generation college)

  • Experience in educational/career/personal development

  • Displayed proficiency in written and verbal communication; and demonstrates written and organizational skills

Required License:

  • A valid driver's license in addition to reliable transportation is required for travel to target schools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, family studies, behavioral science, public administration, or other related fields from an accredited institution in education of higher education

  • At least two years related experience and personal success in overcoming the disadvantages or circumstances of the target population to be served by the project: first-generation, low-income students with the potential for higher education

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience with academic and career guidance as it relates to working with disadvantaged youth, technology, learning skills development, and post-secondary admissions requirements

  • Proficient in written, verbal, and organizational skills

  • Required skills also include the use of computer, social media, tablet, and database technology
