Purpose The East Regional Automation Engineer is responsible for our automation and controls systems involving Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) companywide across all site locations. They will perform detailed control system design and software development for moderately complex engineering assignments, which are stand-alone, or components of a larger project. Key Responsibilities Responsible for scoping project work for control systems and upgrades to equipment, developing user and design requirements, selecting equipment vendors or completing the technology design and equipment build in-house Manage the installation of automation while ensuring safety, and validating the automated system for adherence to requirements and intended system operation Lead plant controls technicians and/or automation engineers in situations where troubleshooting or technology may fall outside of their area of expertise Interact with production supervisors/managers to identify areas to improve equipment throughput, flexibility, quality, safety, and/or reliability Develop and direct automation for safety and quality improvement initiatives across all Roseburg locations Research, develop, lead and apply robotics to industrial equipment in new and creative means Be willing to think outside the box and apply creative thinking and unconventional approaches to new ways of automating industrial processes and equipment Apply and program PLCs, HMIs, inspection systems, robotics, and other complex automation equipment to manufacturing systems and processes Lead and manage small capital projects Manage the budget for small capital projects and proactively identify opportunities to reduce the overall project cost Design and implement modifications to the existing manufacturing equipment needed to improve operational efficiencies Design, install, and validate the automated control system for new or upgraded utilities systems, compounding processes, and filling and packaging equipment Compose Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS) for new or upgraded utility systems, compounding processes, and packaging equipment Generate and revise standard operating procedures Implement corrective and preventative actions to improve manufacturing's operational efficiencies Perform risk assessment and risk mitigation activities using systematic tools Lead, develop, specify and direct the implementation of new technologies to enhance the plants capability in control systems Leads and directs in resolving problems with control systems for all shifts when needed across all Roseburg locations Travel of 20-40% is typical within Regional support locations Travel up to 20% to other regions of operation of Roseburg Models Company core values Requirements B achelor's degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical) or computer science or related field Three (3) + years' experience in automation and process control systems and techniques or prior automation/internship program experiences Ability to read and create Boolean logic and flow diagrams Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills Strong Analytic and organizational skills Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to work in an autonomous environment and ability to manage your own time to achieve goals and objectives Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science or related field) Exposure to highly automated/technical equipment in a manufacturing environment Prior manufacturing experience in 24/7 operations Experience with Wonderware and FactoryTalk View or similar Experience in PLC programming with any of the following PLC's; Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi Adept with programming languages (Visual Basic, Java, Python, C++) Experience with machine vision control systems SQL database, historian design, configuration, setup, and maintenance EtherNet, variable frequency drive and general networking knowledge AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER INCLUDING DISABILITY AND VETERANS
