About the College/Department The University Museum develops and maintains extensive collections totaling 7 million objects in the fields of archeology, ethnography, geology, history, and zoology. The collections are available for exhibition, research, education, and loans. It is an administrative unit of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and seeks to serve the campus, the community, and research scholars. University faculty may request loans of specimens for their classes, or arrange to bring their classes to the University Collections Facility for a visit. Specimens and their associated documentation are available for comparative and research purposes by faculty, qualified students, and visiting scholars. We also fulfill our public service and outreach mission through community engagement programs and loans to other institutions for exhibits. Department Home Page ****************************************************** Job Type Hourly/Student Summary of Job Duties The Museum Outreach Internship will offer valuable experience in education and public engagement. Students in the fields of education, public relations, humanities (ex: anthropology, history, art) or natural sciences (ex: zoology, geosciences) will find the position particularly beneficial, though all fields will be considered. Because of the diverse nature of the collections, an interdisciplinary approach to the internship will be important. The student will provide support for the Museum's campus and community outreach, including: assisting with events, marketing and promotions, giving collection tours, generating social media content (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter), and participating in the development of new outreach efforts. The student will also assist with collection care duties as needed.
