SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES

The Access Coordinator will facilitate access to the academic programs, services, activities, and facilities of the institution for students with disabilities. The specific responsibilities for this position include conducting student access plan interviews, reviewing disability documentation, and assessing the interaction of the student s disability with the environment to coordinate reasonable accommodations; documenting and maintaining appropriate electronic records of verbal and written communications; assisting with supervising Access Counselors, internship and practicum students; providing university-wide consultation, education, and training on the social construction of disability and the intersections of disability with the social and physical environments; researching and evaluating best practices and trends in post-secondary accessibility solutions; and consulting with the center s leadership team to develop strategies, partnerships, and initiatives to further the mission of the Center for Educational Access to maximize campus access for all persons with disabilities.

Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

* Master s degree in a related field (such as Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Adult Education, or Higher Education) from an accredited institution of higher education

* Minimum of two years working with persons with disabilities at the post-secondary educational level

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience supervising professional or graduate student staff, familiarity with access/assistive technology, and licensure/certification in rehabilitation counseling, counseling or related field

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAS)

* Working knowledge of state and federal legislation related to persons with disabilities

* Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills that enable effective working relationships with diverse populations and with people across the UA community

* Ability to work well with a diverse student population

* Problem-solving ability

* Ability to balance multiple competing priorities

* Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

* Exceptional ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment

* Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions
