Part-time Description Job Title: Pharmacy Tech, Part Time
Reports To: Pharmacy Director Job Summary: Assists the Pharmacist
by filling physician orders for medications for oral, rectal,
topical and injectable use; mixes IV admixture solutions as
required using aseptic technique in the Laminar Air Flow Hood;
types labels, prepares and files charge slips and performs other
related duties. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
General Responsibilities: Assists the Pharmacist in providing
medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to
patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital staff. Prepares
intravenous solutions and admixtures. Maintains inventory of
supplies and reorders them accordingly. Assists in filling
prescriptions. Receives and stores incoming deliveries of
medication and supplies. Participates in departmental and
organizational performance improvement and CQI activities. Performs
all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes
patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care
errors. Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
Maintains Pharmacy Services in a clean and orderly manner. Performs
other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required.
Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to
dosage calculations when filing various prescriptions ranging from
the newborn to the elderly populations. Demonstrates ability to
apply common sense and understanding to carry out instruction
furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Demonstrates ability
to deal with problems involving several variables in particular
situations. Recognizes inappropriate dosing based on available
dosage forms for various age groups. Compounded Sterile
Preparations: Demonstrates knowledge and skill ensuring that
pharmaceutical preparations are sterile, properly packaged, labeled
and stored, and not outdated. Ensures compliance with USP
Medium-risk compounding: The applicable media-fill test will be
performed and passed annually, after the initial training and
media-fill test is completed and passed. Requirements Professional
Requirements: Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
Completes annual education requirements. Maintains patient
confidentiality at all times. Maintains regulatory requirements,
including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting
organization standards. Reports to work on time and as scheduled,
completes work within designated time. Wears identification while
on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly. Completes
inservices and returns in a timely fashion. Attends annual review
and department inservices, as scheduled. Attends required staff
meetings, reads and returns all staff meeting minutes. Represents
the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively
participates in performance improvement and continuous quality
improvement (CQI) activities. Complies with all organizational
policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicates the
mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus
statement of the department. Regulatory Requirements: High School
diploma or the equivalent. Preferred one (1) year related pharmacy
experience and/or training or graduate of certified training
program/healthcare careers college. Education in all age groups
ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either in
school education, experience or subsequent training. Appropriate
certificates or licenses required for the position. Language
Skills: Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally
and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Skills: Basic
computer knowledge. Knowledge of automated pharmacy systems. IV
Laminar Flow Hood, or willingness to learn. Physical Demands:
Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal
range. Operates computer. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and
stooping. Lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds. This position is a
safety sensitive position pursuant to Amendment 98 to the Arkansas
Constitution § 2(25). A safety sensitive position means any
position in which a person performing the position while under the
influence of marijuana may constitute a threat to health or safety.
This position is therefore “safety sensitive” due to the fact it
requires the following: performing life-threatening procedures;
working with hazardous or flammable materials, controlled
substances, food, or medicine; and a lapse of attention while
working in this position could result in injury, illness, or death.
